Czech activists raise funds for helicopter for Ukrainian intelligence

Czech citizens have raised EUR 2.8 million to purchase a helicopter for Ukrainian intelligence forces.

The public initiative behind the project, “Darek pro Putina” (“A Gift for Putin”), announced the news on social media platform X on Sunday, according to Ukrinform.

“We are thrilled to announce to the whole world that the citizens of the Czech Republic have come together in a public fundraiser to purchase a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter for Ukrainian military intelligence. A total of EUR 2,800,000 has been raised!” the post stated.

The fundraising campaign lasted over a year, with contributions from private individuals and businesses — more than 20,000 donations in total.

Currently, activists are raising money to buy a howitzer. “Yesterday, you sent us over six and a half million in total! So […] we have almost all the money to but the second cannon. There is only a little left and the howitzer named Kubis will be at home,” the activists said.

The volunteer initiative was launched in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. One of its first large-scale projects, as previously reported by Ukrinform, was a fundraiser to purchase a tank, which was later named Tomas.
