Umerov discusses joint production of ammunition with KNDS leadership

At the Munich Security Conference, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov discussed military equipment maintenance, joint production of ammunition, and the development of UAV systems with the leadership of the KNDS defense holding.

Umerov said this in a post on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“At the Munich Security Conference, we are working on the development of Ukraine’s defense industry. I held a meeting with the leadership of KNDS France and KNDS Deutschland, one of Europe’s largest defense holdings,” Umerov noted.

He said the parties discussed the maintenance of equipment provided to Ukraine by its partners, as well as the supply of new weapon systems, including self-propelled artillery systems.

Umerov stressed that Ukraine is open to localizing repairs and defense production.

The parties also considered the prospects of joint production of 155mm ammunition and discussed with KNDS Deutschland plans to enhance capabilities for the repair and modernization of air defense and missile defense systems.

The special focus was placed on the development of UAV systems and the integration of artificial intelligence into military technology. This is the future of the defense industry, and Ukraine is interested in co-developing these technologies, Umerov said.

“Ukraine continues its cooperation with European and global defense leaders. We exchange experience, launch joint projects, and push the defense industry forward,” Umerov stressed.

As Ukrinform previously reported, Defense Ministers of Ukraine and Finland Rustem Umerov and Antti Häkkänen discussed industrial cooperation, including financing of the Ukrainian defense industry based on the Danish model.
