Turkey is among the countries that make the largest contribution to Ukraine’s energy security, with current investments in the country’s energy sector amounting to approximately $600 million.
Burak Pehlivan, head of the Turkish-Ukrainian Business Association (TUID), said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“Turkish companies provide 8% of Ukraine’s renewable energy production, and their current investments in the energy sector amount to approximately $600 million. With further development, more than 10% of Ukraine’s renewable energy will be provided by Turkish companies,” Pehlivan said.
He noted that Turkey is now among the top three countries from which the largest amount of equipment and materials related to the energy sector is imported. This includes transformers and cables.
“During this period, generators worth at least $800 million were imported. More than half of these generators come directly or indirectly from Turkey. Thus, Turkey is among the countries that make the biggest contribution to Ukraine’s energy security,” Pehlivan said.
He also said that the Turkish business community is actively promoting the format of cooperation with third countries to rebuild Ukraine.
“The Turkish business community highly values cooperation, particularly with third countries, in the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine. We prioritize trilateral cooperation with other countries, such as Turkey-Japan-Ukraine, Turkey-Sweden-Ukraine, Turkey-Poland-Ukraine, Turkey-South Korea-Ukraine, and Turkey-US-Ukraine,” Pehlivan added.
He cited the example that Japan has financial capabilities and technology, but Japanese companies do not operate in a certain industry or under certain conditions.
“Therefore, when Japanese capital, access to financing and technology are combined with the knowledge, experience, machinery and equipment capacity, and human resources of Turkish companies in this field, a very serious synergy will occur,” Pehlivan said.
Similar meetings were also held in Finland and Sweden.
“According to the latest data, Ukraine’s reconstruction and restoration needs have reached 524 billion dollars. Classical methods and ideas are no longer sufficient to address the country’s reconstruction and construction needs. As I mentioned, we need new creative solutions in this regard. As a Turkish business, we are continuing our work at the local level to implement these solutions,” Pehlivan emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported, Istanbul hosted a Ukrainian-Turkish-Japanese business forum in September 2023. Turkish and Japanese companies agreed to participate in projects to rebuild Ukraine.
