U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed hope that Russian leader Vladimir Putin will agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, as outlined in the recent U.S.-Ukraine negotiations in Jeddah.
Trump told this to journalists at the White House on Tuesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“Ukraine. Ceasefire. Just agreed to a little while ago. Now we have to go to Russia, and hopefully, President Putin will agree to that also,” Trump said.
He stressed that thousands of soldiers from both sides are losing their lives in the war, and he is determined to put an end to the conflict.
“We are going to meet with them [Russians] later on today and tomorrow, and hopefully, we’ll be able to [reach] a deal,” Trump added.
A meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations took place on Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Following the talks, both sides issued a joint statement.
