Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva stated that one of the key outcomes of the negotiations between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah was an agreement to accelerate the exchange of prisoners with Russia, as well as the return of civilians and deported children.
As reported by Ukrinform, he announced this on live television.
“We managed to draw even more attention, including from the American side, to the need to intensify the exchange of prisoners of war and the return of illegally detained Ukrainian civilians and deported children. Now this process will move forward more intensively. The American side was presented with the figures. This process will now proceed faster,” Zhovkva said.
He emphasized that coordination with the American side is now ongoing on a permanent basis.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Tuesday, a meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations took place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The parties issued a joint statement following the meeting.
As a result, the Ukrainian delegation supported the U.S. proposal to establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days along the entire front line. This regime can be extended by mutual agreement, provided that the Russian Federation accepts and simultaneously complies with the conditions.
Following the negotiations, the U.S. announced the resumption of aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing.
Immediately after the meeting in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian side began working on action algorithms to properly monitor compliance with the potential ceasefire, as well as the modalities of future peace agreements.
