More than 50 buildings damaged by rocket attack in Sumy



Almost three hundred people and four dozen pieces of equipment are working to eliminate the consequences of the Russian missile attack on Sumy. 101 people were injured.

This was reported in the Telegram of the Sumy City Council, Ukrinform reports.

“Large-scale work is underway at the site of the impact. A total of 288 people and 39 pieces of equipment are involved in the relief efforts. The number of victims has increased to 101, including 78 adults and 23 children. The treatment of 30 patients continues in hospitals,” the statement said.

The city council also reported that 51 buildings were damaged as a result of the strike, including 12 non-residential buildings, 34 apartment buildings and five private residential buildings.

Eight buildings are left without heat supply due to the destruction of infrastructure.

Utilities are reportedly involved in the aftermath: ME Zelenbud, ME Spetskombinat, ME Misksvitlo, ME Shlyakhrembud, ME Miskvodokanal, and JSC Sumygaz.

NGOs are actively assisting the city, including Proliska, the regional organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross, Myrne nebo Kharkova, Pravo na zahyst, BaLu, Sumy Defence, Zhyto. Siemo Dobro”, NGO ‘Dobrobat’, NGO ‘Lion Pride’.

Representatives of the State Emergency Service and the National Police are also working at the site to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, ensure public safety and document the destruction.

So far, 46 applications have been received for inspection of the damaged apartments.

Volunteers of the NGO “Myrne nebo Kharkova” are accepting applications for financial assistance in the amount of UAH 10,800 and distributing humanitarian aid.

Work on eliminating the consequences of the missile strike in Sumy continues, the city council noted.

Earlier, Ukrinform reported that an explosion occurred in the center of Sumy at about 2 p.m. on March 24. Later, the RMA reported that the Russians had hit Sumy with a missile.
