Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Restoration, Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba and President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Nadia Calviño discussed joint projects and areas of cooperation, including road rehabilitation and social housing construction.
Kuleba said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, “the conversation focused on the portfolio of joint projects and new areas of cooperation.”
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked for the continued support of Ukraine.
“In many areas of recovery, the European Investment Bank remains our dedicated partner, and we hope to further expand this cooperation,” Kuleba emphasized.
He also stressed that “in formulating current recovery priorities, we rely on the projects included in the Single Project Portfolio (SPP) under the PIM reform. However, due to the Russian invasion and large-scale shelling, there is still a lot of uncertainty about capital expenditures. We look forward to cooperating with the EIB in this area.”
During the meeting, the parties discussed two new upcoming projects in more detail: “Ukraine Water Recovery” and “Ukraine District Heating”.
They also touched upon certain projects of the Recovery Agency.
“Logistics remains a priority. The Agency, with the assistance of the EIB, is repairing and restoring a number of roads that are key to the transportation of humanitarian, military and other goods, as well as passenger transportation,” Kuleba said.
He added they discussed another initiative – a social housing project launched last year.
“This is about helping those of our citizens who have lost their homes due to Russia’s armed aggression. The first stage of the project involves the construction of 50,000 new apartments,” Kuleba added.
Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister underscored the significance of ongoing support for critical humanitarian projects, particularly in light of the temporary suspension of USAID assistance. “It is crucial to maintain the initiatives that are crucial for the stability and security of our nation,” he said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine and the European Investment Bank have signed agreements that provide for the allocation of EUR 16.5 million from the EIB to restore critical infrastructure and implement energy efficiency, as well as EUR 100 million to restore water, heat, and sewage facilities.
