Kremlin stepping up propaganda efforts in Africa

The Kremlin is ramping up its propaganda campaigns to spread its narratives and influence across Africa. In particular, the Russian Federation plans to set up centers of cooperation with African bloggers and build a Russian television network on the continent.

This was reported on Telegram by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Ukrinform saw.

“The Kremlin is stepping up its propaganda efforts to spread its narratives and influence in Africa. Recently, the so-called ‘Russia-Africa information bridge’ was held in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, with the purpose of strengthening Russia’s information presence on the African continent. Russia plans to create centers for cooperation with African bloggers, build a Russian television network in Africa, support African ‘Orthodox bloggers’, and create religious content targeting African audiences,” the report says.

As noted, Russian propaganda is actively speculating around the topic of anti-colonialism and trying to portray Russia as a nation entrusted with the “noble mission of finally ending information colonialism in Africa.”

In fact, the CCD emphasized, this rhetoric serves a single purpose of expanding Russia’s influence on the continent in a completely neocolonial spirit. For Moscow, Africa is merely a source of natural resources to weaken the impact of economic sanctions and sustain its war effort against Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the CCD refuted Russia’s “profitable” cooperation with China as trade turnover between the two countries has plunged by $34 billion since year-start.
