Vasyl was born on January 7, 1976, in Zhashkiv, Cherkasy region. He had two older sisters. The family has always respected good traditions. According to his fellow villagers, his family name was a perfect match for his talents. It is said that the singing trio of the Muzyk children was well known for their performances in the area. Vasyl himself played the guitar well, loved to sing, and was musically gifted.

He found studying easy, so after graduating from high school and a local vocational school, he continued his education at Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University. Later, Vasyl received a second degree in economics at the Uman Agricultural Institute [now the Uman National University of Horticulture]. Then he served in the army, in the intelligence of the 95th separate airmobile brigade.
In 2005, he worked as the head of the housing and communal services department at the Uman District State Administration. Later, Vasyl managed to head the Arsenal Production and Construction Company and the DVS Transport Company LLC. He also worked in other public and private institutions.

The hero’s wife, Oksana, who is a Ukrainian language teacher by profession, fondly recalls how she and Vasyl were “introduced” by grammatical errors on a poster on the door of the local administration. Even then, Oksana was struck by Vasyl’s active, caring, and patriotic nature.
“He has always been convinced that the common cause depends on everyone’s contribution. This was especially evident in him during the Revolution of Dignity, on the Maidan, where he traveled with other Uman residents,” says Oksana. – “Vasyl was a truly sincere, conscious Ukrainian who lived by the belief that we are a people, a nation, and we must build a country for our children. He was one of those people who believed that he could change something in this country when he came to work in the local administration.” Therefore, after February 24, 2022, Vasyl’s decision was clear and unequivocal: he was joining the army. “However, I didn’t want to tell my elderly parents directly about it. And even then, when I came on vacation or recovered from an injury, I didn’t tell them anything about the war. He only said that we have the best people and nation,” the woman says.

In March 2022, Vasyl was mobilized. At first, he was part of the Bila Tserkva Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, and later he was transferred to the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi, where he became the chief sergeant of an infantry platoon with the call sign “Viter”. He fought in Bakhmut and received a combat injury there. He and his brigade also held defense in Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
“Our Vasyl is such a man that he could not just watch and observe the disaster that came to his native land. He told his family: “My Ukraine begins with my family”. And he went to defend his family so that the enemy would not come here, to his home,” says his sister Inna.

Vasyl Muzyka fought his last battle on March 12, 2023, during a combat mission near Yampil, Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region.
“In a difficult moment, Vasyl took command of the platoon, the battle was over, and it was time to conduct further reconnaissance. But then an enemy sniper’s bullet hit him right in the heart,” Oksana’s wife recounts the circumstances of that day.

Sergeant Viter was buried in the cemetery in Horodetske, Cherkasy region. On the back of the tombstone on his grave are the following words: “I will be calm when everyone I love is happy. And my Ukraine is free”.
For his heroism, Vasyl Muzyka was posthumously awarded the honorary decoration “For Merit to Uman Region,” the honorary decoration “For Courage and Bravery,” the Order “For Courage,” III degree, and the medal “For Faithful Service to Ukraine.”
“If God had given Vasyl another life, I am sure he would have done the same,” said local volunteer Ivan Kuzmenko on the second anniversary of the soldier’s death at the local cemetery.
Vasyl Muzyka is now 47 years old forever. He is survived by his wife Oksana, son Viktor and daughter Anastasia.
May the Hero’s memory be eternal!
