Border guards are recording attempts by small assault groups from Russia to enter the territory of Sumy region, particularly in the directions of the villages Novenke and Zhuravka.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was stated on live broadcast by Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU) Andrii Demchenko.
“We continue to record attempts by small Russian assault groups to enter our territory and approach our border. Their goal remains unchanged: to penetrate as deeply as possible into Sumy region, towards the village of Novenke or slightly to the left, towards Zhuravka. This is where we are observing such enemy actions aiming to gather forces and expand the active combat zone,” he said.
Demchenko emphasized that all border guard units stationed in the Sumy direction are using available weapons, artillery, mortar units, and drones to eliminate these groups even before they reach the Ukrainian border.
The SBGSU Spokesperson clarified that over the past day, both on Ukrainian territory and beyond the state border, approximately 15 Russian soldiers were killed, and over 10 were wounded and forced to retreat.
At the same time, Demchenko noted that the Russians are not using armored vehicles or transport due to the terrain. Instead, they are trying to accumulate forces by advancing on foot in small assault groups of two to five soldiers.
As reported by Ukrinform, in recent weeks, Ukrainian border guard units in the northern part of Sumy region repelled two sabotage and reconnaissance groups attempting to cross the Ukrainian border.
