A pursuit of a suspected armed driver ended with a police shooting in Willowbrook Wednesday.
The police chase started just after 2 p.m. at 114th Street and Compton Avenue in Nickerson Gardens after officers spotted a vehicle wanted on a felony warrant, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The chase came to an end on the Central Avenue onramp of the eastbound 105 Freeway.
There, police say the suspect got out of the car and began running down the embankment of the onramp with a hand inside a backpack. At least one officer fired their weapon, striking the suspect.
A weapon was not found in the suspect’s backpack.
“The backpack has been searched and there is not a firearm in that backpack. They are searching though, the path of the foot pursuit and we’ll see if there are any weapons, firearms retrieved from that area,” said LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar.
The driver, described as a man in his 30s, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
This is a developing story, check back for details.
