On the night of March 7-8, drones operated by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region.
Sources in Ukrainian intelligence confirmed the attack to Ukrinform.
“On the night of March 8, a group of UAVs attacked the Kirishnefteorgsintez enterprise in the Kirishi district of Russia’s Leningrad region,” the source said.
Local online communities reported explosions at the site at around 06:00.
At least one storage tank at the facility sustained damage. The regional governor also confirmed the attack.
According to HUR, Kirishnefteorgsintez is a strategic oil refining facility that plays a role in supplying fuel to the Russian military.
“The Main Intelligence Directorate continues to dismantle the aggressor’s hydrocarbon industry, depriving Russia’s war machine of its ‘lifeblood,'” HUR officials said.
On the night of March 4, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with other Ukrainian units, struck an oil refinery in Syzran and oil pumping infrastructure in Russia’s Rostov region.
