Traffic on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles’ west San Fernando was at a standstill Wednesday morning after a box truck carrying propane tanks caught fire.
The truck fire was reported at about 8:30 a.m. on the side of the eastbound 101 Freeway in Encino. There were no reports of serious injuries.
All eastbound lanes were closed for the LAFD response, leading to a lengthy backup near the 405 Freeway.
The fire appeared to be contained to the cargo area of the truck. Flames were out in about an hour.
Nine propane tanks were removed from the cargo area and emptied. There were no reports of explosions.
